METAL GEAR SOLID holds a special place in most gamer’s hearts as one of the most action packed, enigmatic, and ambitious video game franchises of all time. With roots that date as far back as the original NES, gaming just wouldn’t be the same without Metal Gear around.
Orlando FL is the theme park capital of the United States and we’re just starting to get a ton of incredible conventions in our humble city as well. Due perhaps to the success of Disney’s Hollywood studios, Orlando is lucky enough to once again be the home of the biggest Star Wars convention in the entire galaxy, Star Wars Celebration VI. Here are some of the panel highlights for the big con taking place between August 23 – August 26th 2012. It should also be noted that we’ll be doing our best to provide coverage of the event, and are really keeping our fingers crossed that there will be a lot of Twi’Leks with nice lekkus.
With the addition of Battle.net and authenticators, one would think that the age of mass password hacks would be over, sadly they are not. With virtual gold that’s often times worth more than some actual real world currencies, hacking a World of Warcraft or Diablo account can be worth a lot of REAL money. For instance in China, the average person is currently making around 665 Yuans a month or $104 U.S. (source) . This would mean that the theft of $100,000 WOW gold could net a Blizzard account pirate a month’s pay in China (as the average exchange rate is $10 for 10,000 WOW gold). If no market existed, the hacking wouldn’t be half as bad as it is today
The latest installment of Geek and Sundry’s Written by a Kid is perhaps my favorite episode yet. Yes, I enjoyed it even more than watching Joss Whedon lead the S.Q.A.T Team against a menacing monster.
We love conventions, but sadly we can’t attend them all. Last year, we were lucky enough to have our friend and contributor Stumpynat head to Seattle in order to cover (and enjoy)the first annual GeekGirlCon. This year we’re happy to say that she’ll be helping us out yet again. If you didn’t get a chance to check out Nat’s coverage of the event, you can do so HERE. If you’re curious what GGC is all about, here is some information straight from the source.

Unleash the Leviathan! From the moment players got their hands on ME3 they’ve been clamoring for DLC that delves into the history of the franchise’s “big bad”, The Reapers. Moments ago at the EA summer showcase, Mass Effect fans got their wish. The Mass Effect 3 Leviathan DLC is coming very soon, and it looks to be filled with all new locations, dialog, and adventures.
Hey there gang. Just writing a quick note to thank you for making July one of our best months ever at NerdAppropriate.com. Despite being scattered unto the winds we managed to produce four podcasts (thanks Scott), conducted a bum load of interviews, ran an incredibly fun community game night, and Matt, Hilary, and myself even managed to provide a wee bit of Comic-Con coverage out in San Diego. So how the heck do we top July? August! *Explosion Noise*
Katrina Hill’s “The Most Dangerous Women at Comic-Con” panel was sort of like one of those awesome Marvel Team Up comics you probably read when you were a wee kid. If for some reason you were deprived of said comic, Marvel Team Up would take a few heroes from different books and send them on a mission they could only accomplish by working together. While no crime fighting actually occurred during the panel, it did manage to showcase some of the most creative, fun, and entertaining women in their respective industries.
The Mass Effect 3 bi-monthly challenges continue this weekend with Operation Overwatch. Unlike July’s Operation Broadside, Overwatch appears as though it should be easier goal to accomplish. Simply extract your team on any difficulty with one of the new N7 classes, and you’re all set. The allied goal is a combined extraction of 800,000 individual players on any difficulty level… even bronze.
I remember writing a multi-part story in second grade about my magical robot wristwatch. The story was so strange and filled with raw imagination that my mother kept it for ages. Heck, it may still be in an envelope someplace in the bottom of a dresser. Kids have unfiltered and unsullied imaginations, and that imagination is what makes Geek and Sundry’s Written by a Kid so incredible. Actual stories written by actual kids are brought to life visually for our enjoyment.
