Since we last posted about our buddy Brea Grant’s upcoming feature film Best Friends Forever, their kickstarter campaign has picked up a lot steam with donations from all around the world. With only SIX days left, they need a bit more of our help to cover post-production costs (they shot on expensive 16mm). Where would conventions be without the incredible costumes? There is something magical about seeing your favorite hero or villain standing in front of you in 3D. Costuming has come a long way since my very first comic book convention in the 1980s. The talented folks behind many of the costumes you’ll see below spent months toiling over hundreds of screen shots and concept art to make their creations look as realistic as possible. I’ll go out on a limb and say that conventions wouldn’t be what they are today (see: awesome) without the hard work and dedication of these creative misfits.

The year was 1994 and I was sitting at my computer covered in Dorito crumbs and shattered dreams. After hours of playing XCOM, my entire squad of super soldiers had met their end due to a simple mis-click. Since death in XCOM was permanent, it was time to reload and try again… and again. XCOM: UFO Defense was one of my favorite strategy titles of all time, despite it’s brutal difficulty. For nearly twenty years I’ve been waiting for a proper sequel, and I’m very happy to say that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is that title.
