The second BioWare panel at Geek Girl Con titled, “Myth of the Female Gamer Perspective,” was an attempt to explore and generate discussion on what can be a polarizing topic. Karin Weekes (senior editor) moderated the panel while the panelists included were: Sheryl Chee (writer); Jessica Merizan (community manager); Sarah Hayward (cinematic designer); Melanie Fleming (localization producer) and Kris Schoneberg (level designer).

After having a wonderful time, making new friends, and exploring Seattle last October, I decided to once again make the trek back this year for the second Geek Girl Con. I wasn’t the only one returning to GGC, the delightful ladies of Bioware joined me as well. This year there were two panels, the first of which was a presentation on the life cycle of a level. Moderated by Jessica Merizan, panelists included, Mary Kirby (writer), Raylene Deck (level designer), Sarah Hayward (cinematic designer), Karin Weekes (senior editor), and Melanie Fleming (localization producer).

Orlando FL is the theme park capital of the United States and we’re just starting to get a ton of incredible conventions in our humble city as well. Due perhaps to the success of Disney’s Hollywood studios, Orlando is lucky enough to once again be the home of the biggest Star Wars convention in the entire galaxy, Star Wars Celebration VI. Here are some of the panel highlights for the big con taking place between August 23 – August 26th 2012. It should also be noted that we’ll be doing our best to provide coverage of the event, and are really keeping our fingers crossed that there will be a lot of Twi’Leks with nice lekkus.

Hey there gang. Just writing a quick note to thank you for making July one of our best months ever at NerdAppropriate.com. Despite being scattered unto the winds we managed to produce four podcasts (thanks Scott), conducted a bum load of interviews, ran an incredibly fun community game night, and Matt, Hilary, and myself even managed to provide a wee bit of Comic-Con coverage out in San Diego. Katrina Hill’s “The Most Dangerous Women at Comic-Con” panel was sort of like one of those awesome Marvel Team Up comics you probably read when you were a wee kid. If for some reason you were deprived of said comic, Marvel Team Up would take a few heroes from different books and send them on a mission they could only accomplish by working together. While no crime fighting actually occurred during the panel, it did manage to showcase some of the most creative, fun, and entertaining women in their respective industries.

Epic Games had a huge presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with both Gears of War: Judgement, and Fortnite showing off their goodies. Until this year’s SDCC, we knew very little of what Fornite was actually about, how it would look, or really, how in the heck it would play. Well, we have some great news for you, Fortnite looks super-slick and has the capacity to be more fun than any of us really deserve.

As soon as we got into the door I turned to a few of the folks with me and said “Don’t get used to this, it’s about to get a lot more crowded in here.” Within about 15 minutes standard walking became the “con shuffle”, a sort of rhythmic zombie stride that is nowhere close to actual walking. It’s hard to believe there will be MORE people here tomorrow.
