We’ve been saying it for years now, but Nerd HQ offers up some of the best programming during Comic-Con all while helping out people in need (Operation Smile). The brain-child of actor (and lover of nerdy things) Zachary Levi, Nerd HQ has been steadily growing year after year and now inhabits a portion of the massive Petco Park during the weekend of Comic-Con.

Zombies have always been a big part of my life. My first exposure to zombies came at a very young age when George Romero was filming Day of the Dead on Sanibel Island. Actors in full Savini makeup showed up at my elementary school to pick up their kids and as soon as I saw their beautiful disfigured faces, I was hooked.
While it’s not nice to pick favorites, the cast of the History’s first live action television series Vikings pillaged their way into my heart during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and offered up one of my favorite experiences of the the entire show. On deck this year were Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lothbrok), Clive Standen (Rollo Lothbrok), Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn “Ironside” Lothbrok) and Michael Hirst (creator/writer).
While not nearly as massive as PAX in terms of its video game related programming, Comic-Con has been steadily adding more video game related content year after year. This year Comic-Con has dozens of panels to satisfy your video game hunger. Sadly, indie games haven’t really made their way to Comic-Con as of yet, but it’s only a matter of time before indie games crash the party.
San Diego Comic-Con is magical, but it can REALLY kick your ass if you’re not ready for it. I’ve been keeping my eye on Secret Ponchos since I first saw it at last year’s PAX: East and since that time the spaghetti-western-shooter has grown up and matured quite a bit… like a delicious cheese if you will. Initially designed for the PS3, Secret Ponchos has been rebuilt to run at 60FPS on the PS4 and looks prettier than ever with enhanced character models, lighting, and a ton of polish.

In EVOLVE four hunters, each with unique weapons and skills, race to bring down a monstrous behemoth that is constantly growing more deadly as the match progresses. Think of the game sort of like the movie Predator, but with the Predator constantly munching on steroids to get even more predator-y. Both Scott and I played EVOLVE at this year’s PAX and had very different experiences.
