Hopefully everyone is enjoying an action packed E3 extravaganza this week! For those of us at home who are still enjoying the tactical bliss that is Mass Effect multiplayer, we have some info about this weekend’s community challenge. Unlike the “kill” and “promote” objectives we’ve seen in the past, Operation Mastiff will require the community to complete 100,000 delivery missions, the new objective included in the free Rebellion pack.
After selling 13 million units world wide, you didn’t really think the Gears of War franchise was over right? While the fine folks at EPIC Games are have shifted focus to other endeavors (see Fort Night), they’ve handed over their precious (and lucrative) franchise to their friends at People Can Fly, the sadists behind last year’s Bulletstorm. With the world of Sera saved and all that, where does the Gears franchise head next? Simple, THE PAST!
Quite possibly the biggest piece of gaming news in recent months was the rise and fall of 38 Studios. Virtually every gaming site on the planet has covered the event that will no doubt go down in gaming history as one gigantic cluster bomb of nasty. We actually talked about it on Rated NA:60 as well as Press to Reset: 45 – Like a chainsaw wielding white knight, North Carolina based Epic Games, creators of Unreal, Gears of War, and the upcoming Fort Night, have stepped into the ring as the heroes of this once awful and depressing tale. As I approached, squinting to see what was ahead, the blast of an unfamiliar horn made me realize that I had made a fatal mistake. Within seconds a dozen snarling goblins surrounded my wounded avatar with swords raised. Soon after that, I was dead. This is the brutal world of Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma.

This week Bioware hosted a screening of Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker in San Francisco and other locations. I’ll admit, I had no idea this movie was going to be even shown in theaters, much less anywhere where near I live. So, I braved rush hour on the Bay Bridge and headed into the city to take a peek.
Tighten your belts, because this update is going to blow your pants off.
SQUIDS gets a free update to the iOS app today, and a sequel kicking down the saloon doors this summer!
If we’re understanding correctly the newest Mass Effect multiplayer operation will feature more banshees than ever before, as well as banshees on non-reaper maps. Just when you thought wave 11 couldn’t get any worse… extra banshees, more screeching, and even more shoulder massage of death.
Seeing footage of XCOM: Enemy Unknown at this year’s PAX: East quickly reminded me how much I longed for the glory days of well executed turn based strategy. Not only did the XCOM look incredible, it also seemed to mysteriously capture the tone and pedigree of the original title. If you’re anything like myself and have been waiting for a proper release day for this long anticipated title, we’ve got great news, the wait is almost over! XCOM is set to invade North America on October 9th 2012 for both 360 and PC. (click for more info)
